MISCHIEVOUS: A Testimonial

A testimonial about ghosts

“They are mischievous. If they knew you had the fear of them, they would do something to make you fear them more.” It is a testimony from Gwyneth May Santos Magsanoc. She is a 17-year old lady who studies here at Saint Pius X Institute as a grade 12 student. One of our activities here in SPXI is to participate in a retreat that lasts for two days and one night. Gwyneth, alongside with her classmates, spent their retreat in a retreat house in Norzagaray, Bulacan named St. John Mary Vianney Retreat House. Gwyneth, the one who is the subject of this testimonial, hoped for a peaceful night for her retreat, however, she experienced a scary one.

Gwyneth is originally a believer of ghosts and she has a fear of them since she experienced seeing one when she was 6 years old. However, their retreat made her more scared of them. “As we enter Room 4, we, alongside with my roommates, felt an uncomfortable ambiance that made us feel uneasy and scared,” she said. “We felt like there’s someone who stares at us.” She told me their story there. As long as they enter their room, they already felt something, a ghost. As the night came on their retreat, Gywneth and her roommates scares each other although they were already scared. Due to Gwyneth’s fear, she tried to make herself comfortable but she was surprised when one of her roommates, Monica, screamed. “Monica said that time that someone poke her and she said I am the one who did that, but I really didn’t. That is why the scaring that we did had an extension of its effect because of the ghost.” Due to that happening, they talked about it for a while. “While talking to them on that time, I laid myself one the bed while one of my roommates, Cristine, arranges her pillow before laying. But another weird thing happened, my pillow and Christine’s got pulled from our heads on the same time.” Again, despite of their growing fear, the ghost still made them feel its presence and that made them really, really scared to the point that they can’t sleep anymore in that room. Because of that, they spent their night in the session room with some of the boys. However, on the time I am talking to her I decided to ask her, “Did the retreat made you feel more brave or fearful of ghosts?” “Truthfully, I became more fearful of them. But I try my best to hide that fear to protect myself from another mischievousness of the ghosts around us.”

“Mischievous”, that is the word that Gwyneth used to describe the ghosts. As I interviewed her and as I do this testimonial, I am convinced that they are really mischievous. The experiences that she shared truly proves that. Their fear started from an uncomfortable ambiance of a room, enhanced by their scaring of each other, and increased drastically by the ghost’s presence and doings. I therefore realized that ghosts are everywhere, but it depends on us if we’ll fall for their mischievousness.
